Playing Guitar Hero 4 - The World Tour

For many people, once they start playing Guitar Hero 4 they simply can’t put it down. However, as with any new game, first-time players do experience a learning curve. In order to enjoy Guitar Hero 4, you need to understand the key concepts and how game play works. So, here is a brief overview of this amazing, musical game.

When you first open the box for Guitar Hero 4 you will notice you have several options for controlling the game. You can play the guitar, bass, drums, or sing with the microphone. The ultimate goal of the game is to successfully simulate rock music by “playing” the instrument controllers. There are several game play modes in which you can do this. For each song, though, a player may only control a single instrument. For guitar and bass, the goal is to press colored buttons as indicated and strum the notes. With the drums, you will want to strike the indicated pad or pads as indicated, and with the microphone you simply sing the right lyrics on key.

Guitar Hero 4 has five difficulty levels so you can pick the option that suits your talents. You can choose to play songs at the beginner, east, medium, hard, or expert level. This lets you tailor the experience to your skill level. In beginner mode, which is unique to this new version of Guitar Hero, all you need to do is keep the beat on your chosen instrument. For example, if playing guitar, you need only strum the notes without paying attention to which colored buttons are pressed. From there, each level is progressively harder. In easy mode, you will only need to focus on certain buttons, while on expert you may be asked to do several things simultaneously.

While playing the game, you want to successfully hit as many notes as possible. The more notes you hit, the higher your score. You can see how good you are doing by checking the “Rock Meter.” Watch out though, if the “Rock Meter” drops too low you will fail the song and have to start over. As you hit notes repeatedly, your scoring increases exponentially. You can earn up to a 4x increase by hitting a series of notes, but if you miss a note scoring goes back to normal. Additionally, as you hit notes you can fill up your “Star Power” meter. When this passes the full line, you can use it to initiate a short span of greatly increasing scoring. Keep in mind, though, that if you are playing in a multiplayer mode, everyone’s scores are counted together. This means everyone must do well to keep the “Rock Meter” high and earn “Star Power.”

If you successfully finish a song, you will earn a star rating and virtual monetary rewards. You can always replay a song to get a better rating, though. Ultimately, Guitar Hero 4 is designed to provide you with enough game play options so you never get frustrated or bored. Plus, there are many special features, like attacks, character editing, and music sharing, which can make the game play experience more enjoyable.
